Generic Propecia® (Finasteride) begins to work from Day
1. Generic Propecia® (Finasteride) has been demonstrated effective in most
men. In fact, in FDA-reviewed clinical trials, 2 out of 3 men on generic
Propecia® (Finasteride) regrew hair, as measured by actual hair counts; whereas
all the men in the study not taking generic Propecia® (Finasteride) lost hair.
The convenient, once-a-day pill works from Day 1 to lower the amount of DHT in
your scalp.
Although results will vary, generally you will not be able to grow back all
the hair you have lost.
If you start taking generic Propecia® (Finasteride) you may see a decrease in
hair loss beginning in as little as 3 months. And by 6 to 12 months, you may see
new hair growth. If generic Propecia® (Finasteride) doesn't work for you after 12
months, it is unlikely to be of benefit. If you stop taking generic Propecia®
(Finasteride), you will likely lose any hair you've gained within 12 months of
stopping treatment. Generic Propecia® (Finasteride) has been used by more than 1
million men in the United States since the drug's introduction in 1998

Disclaimer
The details presented here are for general information. It is not a
substitute for qualified medical advice from your Health Care Specialist
regarding the use, interactions and efficacy of this medication.
The
effects vary from patient to patient and the details provided should be used as
a general guide only. Generic Name
Finasteride
Brand Name
Propecia® (a registered brand name of Merck & Co., Inc) What is generic Propecia® (Finasteride) used for?
Generic Propecia® (Finasteride) is the first and only FDA-approved pill
demonstrated to treat male pattern hair loss on the vertex (top of head) and
anterior mid-scalp area (middle front of head) in men only. There is not
sufficient evidence that generic Propecia® (Finasteride) works for receding
hairlines at the temples. How should generic
Propecia® (Finasteride) be used?
The recommended dosage is 1 mg orally once a day. Generic Propecia®
(Finasteride) may be administered with or without meals. In general, daily use
for three months or more is necessary before benefit is observed. Continued use
is recommended to sustain benefit, which should be re-evaluated periodically.
Withdrawal of treatment leads to reversal of effect within 12 months. What special precautions should I follow?
Generic Propecia® (Finasteride) is for the treatment of male pattern hair loss
in MEN ONLY and should NOT be used by women or children.
In clinical studies for generic Propecia® (Finasteride), a small number of men
experienced certain sexual side effects, such as less desire for sex, difficulty
in achieving an erection, or a decrease in the amount of semen. Each of these
side effects occurred in less than 2% of men and went away in men who stopped
taking generic Propecia® (Finasteride) because of them.
Women who are or may potentially be pregnant must not use generic Propecia®
(Finasteride) and should not handle crushed or broken generic Propecia®
(Finasteride) tablets because the active ingredient may cause abnormalities of a
male baby's sex organs. If a woman who is pregnant comes into contact with the
active ingredient in generic Propecia® (Finasteride), a doctor should be
consulted. Gneric Propecia® (Finasteride) tablets are coated and will prevent
contact with the active ingredient during normal handling, provided that the
tablets are not broken or crushed. What side effects
can this medication cause?
A small number of men had sexual side effects, with each occurring in less
than 2% of men. These include less desire for sex, difficulty in achieving an
erection, and a decrease in the amount of semen. These side effects went away in
men who stopped taking generic Propecia® (Finasteride) because of them. In
addition, these side effects decreased to 0.3% of men or less by the fifth year
of treatment. What storage conditions are needed
for this medicine?
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of
reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and
moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no
longer needed. |
